Suggestions for unique and wonderful places in Phlyndir

Vanorra

Postby Hureciel » Mon Nov 07, 2011 5:51 pm

Welcome to Vanorra, the thornspire city, also known as the Kod-mezu capital, located at the southwest ridge of Delphynir.

Vanorra contains:
Elder's Hall (The medium of governance is a Triumvirate; three elders)
Summoner's Hall (Not sure what this does yet but there has to be a Summoner's Hall)

Others?

Vanorra is supposed to be a giant collection of thorn trees, which pretty much look like giant white spikes that reach about a hundred storeys. The trees are hollowed out, with giant spiral staircases around them, and the higher you go, the more powerful the people you meet. The city extends underground.

There is no currency in Vanorra, although there are some merchants that lie at the outer edge of Solfinir.

These aspects are not final; they can be changed if addressed accordingly.

If the trees are alive (and magical), there could be tree-keepers maybe? They could do aura checks and make sure the trees don't get sick. 'Cause I was thinking that maybe the trees are very sensitive and get affected by negative emotions, like anger or jealousy. So the tree-keepers' job would be to detect any changes in the trees' magical aura, and then go find the people who are causing the disturbances and hold a trial if necessary. It'd be their justice system and it'd make for a slightly dystopian society--kind of like 1984 but with magical trees who need to be happy all the time. Hahaha!

They should have a pool. Elves love pools. Bonus points if it's the Pool of Something.

Do the people underground live in tunnels, or still in the trees?

If there are buildings, maybe they'd be nice with a castle motif? ..Does anybody want to make a sleeping beauty reference?

I think the only buildings will be one to three storey houses? Made of stone I guess

Underground, I believe there may be a tunnel system, or even something resembling Lowtown in FF12. The Kod-Mezu are a clean people. I believe they'd pave everything with cobblestone, the only indication of being underground being the lack of windows.

If the trees are big enough to act as houses, then I imagine lots of bridges (maybe the branches?) connecting the trees. With enough wood, they can even make treehouses or something.

As for the "Trees are alive" thing, maybe only the Elders can sense what the forest is feeling, hence why people turn to them for help.

The spiral staircases are made of heavy trees that the Kod mezu were able to fashion into stairs. I imagine that it's quite possible to make them branch out and make bridges to other spires.

Also, I had in mind treants, uprooted dumber relatives of the uceto. They can't talk but they understand speech

Tree bridges sound neat! And so do pools!

...now to figure out what the summoners are there for.
