Before the cataclysm, when Phlyndir was still whole, there existed massive trees with roots extending so deep that it was believed to have reached the center of the world. Though no one knows how long these trees have lived, it is certain that these trees have been around for eons, bearing witness to everything; every event, every detail affecting and changing the world. These trees have seen the chaos and strife during the war of the faiths and have lived through the events of the cataclysm as well.
During the cataclysm, when the land was breaking apart, these great trees were able to hold the land beneath their trunks with their countless roots forming a small floating island that would wander the great mist oceans. Rumors soon spread that these trees have gained sentience. Not only were they aware of everything around them, but they show great wisdom that rivaled even the gods themselves.
Countless expeditions have been launched to try and find these great trees but there has been no conclusive find. There would sometimes be silhouettes in the mist resembling a floating island with a great tree, but as soon as explorers would get closer it would give way to a different scenery. Though their existence could not be proven, there are those that have dedicated themselves to the study of these elusive trees. Some theorized that the roots of these trees extended so deep into the world that, during the cataclysm, their roots came into contact with the core and was able to absorb a portion of the power of the gods, thereby, giving it sentience and wisdom.
