Byvell - The Living Garden

* W o r k i n p r o g r e s s*

Byvell is not simply a forest, it is a vast living creature at the same time. It is alive. Its inhabitants are the plants themselves, most of them sentient lifeforms who are able to move on free will, and are self-sufficient. Byvell is a place of fear, awe, and wonder. The flora have specific abilities based on the form they take. Strange fauna may also be found. In fact, it is difficult to tell the difference between the two in Byvell. All of these beings are in symbiosis with the keepers of Byvell; the Kod-Mezu. From hygiene to combat, they all willingly provide benefit for one another. In dire situations, their life may depend on it. The trinity of the forest (Flora, Fauna, and Kod-Mezu) have a natural bond that cannot be broken, and is the foundation to their survival and prosperity.

Physical appearance:
On the outside, Byvell looks like any plain forest; dense, and shady with tall trees, earth covered mostly in short grass, flowers here and there, plus a cool breeze, but this is not all there is to it. As you go deeper, you may begin to hear strange sounds, that of giggling children, chimes and bells, sometimes even faint musical hymns. Even further into the garden and one might begin to wonder how the place can be so deep and so wide despite its outer appearance. At this point, the foreign sounds may grow more frequent, and more enchanting, sounding sweeter than the last. The songs of the forest may grow more intricate, savory to the ear, but one can never truly recall them when out of the forest. That is, if they are permitted to leave. The allure only continues to grow within Byvell when at one point or another, a traveler may notice strangely colored trees, leaves of different colors such as pink, purple, green, and blue, along with glowing flowers, and wood that seems naturally painted in dark yet colorful shades. Most of the trees also bear flowers, instead of leaves when far into the forest. As one progresses, the surroundings grow more different, yet more enchanting. Despite the distinct strangeness of the place, it has an inviting, comforting feel to it, like a secret paradise.

Myth:
It is said that some children run away from home and into the forest, no longer returning to their homes. The families who have lost children are reported to receive unexplainable gifts though, such as delicious fruit, beautiful sounding song recordings that only they can hear, flowers that do not wither, and some others.

Also, when somebody tries to deliberately attack the nature within Byvell, they may find themselves suddenly hanged by a vine from behind, unconscious, or suffering intense headaches, later to be eaten by a plant and never to be found again.

Heart of the forest:
(Attitude) At the heart of the forest is where you will find the very proof of civilization in Byvell. Everywhere else, one cannot conclude for sure that it has intelligent inhabitants, plant or animal, because they only watch from afar, and lurk in the shadows. Unless of course, you try to hard the forest, are attacked, and do not make it out alive. There is an innate slyness to all Byvellians. Caution and calculation are indispensable in protecting the existence of the of an unknown forest containing wondrous resources and deep enigmas. They are generally passive, and will not attack visitors unless their presence is a threat to the great garden. The people of Byvell can also be very friendly creatures. Having a lot of psychic inhabitants, it is said that whoever comes from Byvell is able to tell of the nature of a person's heart just by looking at their eyes, and that those of benevolent nature are rewarded with glamorous bounty. Of course, the people in Byvell, like any other people, also have varying personalities.

(Appearance) The forest of Byvell, especially the heart of it, is like a beautiful world of its own; cultivated in all directions. In the day, it is painted with the vibrant, lush colors of the leaves and flowers, and in the night, it is cool, and the fireflies begin to hover around, making it a truly breathtaking site to behild. Houses made of many different kinds of materials taken from nature can be found everywhere, underground, atop incredibly tall trees, on the ground, by rivers, in caves, and more. "The great tree" is also located within the very center of the forest, and is larger than any other, maybe even among the whole world. It is an unexplained mystery why it cannot be seen from outside, but that's the way it is. It also seems to be a powerful source of magic, emanating with gentle light at certain times. Festivals are also known to be held regarding the great tree, but that is yet to be discovered by outside inhabitants.

Creatures:
-Flora:
(Whisperers) Tiny feminine flowers who are psychics, and are adept at hiding themselves. These delicate creatures are often the messengers of the forest because of their mind's eye radar and their telepathy. There are also a few large whisperers, who have thick, movable vines, and psychokinesis for protection, an uncommon ability for the non-combat-suited flowers. Others are also able to appear big and intimidating thanks to their abilities of projection.

(Mandrakes and Mandarogas) Living root crops that have human-shaped faces on them. The most common is an old person's face with a sour, wrinkled expression. When found, they will try their best to run away. They may also be poisonous, able to cause intense hallucination to its assailant, and are said to contain mystical powers that have multiple uses. Mandarogas tend to squirm, and it seems that they're not able to talk, except for a very few of them said to contain ancient wisdom.

(Green men) Plants in the shape of Ehrui. They do not lack any life when compared to the original, are fully functional, and are like a whole race themselves. Though, they are one of the rare ones in the forest. Their sizes may vary from fitting in one's pocket to being as tall as a tree. The green men have incredible camouflage, perhaps able to truly mold their bodies willingly, and have the ability to produce a variety of plants. Some say that they are the greatest warriors of the forest, along with the Kod-Mezu.

-Fauna:
(Animals) (?) From mammals to mollusks, the strange forest contains normal(?) animals, except for the fact that they are merged with, or rather, grow out plant parts. Examples of these may be wolves and dogs with large flower rings on their necks, gorillas with moss for fur, birds with roses on their backs and tiny thorns on their feet, elephants with watermelons growing out of them, and many more. The possibilities are endless. The deeper into the forest, the more fascinating the animals.

(Fairies) Bombacious ladies who have colorful wings on their back, and wear elegant clothing made out of their surroundings. Sometimes skimpy, sometimes modest. They can range from innocent little children to big, amazon-like matrons. Fairies' favored weapons are bows and staves, many of them being able to use magic. Most of them are also extra friendly, and may be seen riding an animal from the forest valiantly into combat, or just playing with them leisurely in times of peace.

Notes:
There may be even more mystical creatures apart from these who inhabit The Garden, but no one knows for sure.
