Suggestions for stories about Phlyndir

The Cataclysm

Postby Ted » Mon Jan 03, 2011 3:08 pm

Phlyndir was once a beautiful paradise. A world of blue oceans and green fields as far as the eye could see. Wonderful creatures of all shapes and sizes roamed the land in harmony and balance with each other. Watching over this paradise and its creatures were the four guardian gods of Phlyndir; Xerathil, Calin, Baliel, and Hureciel, along with the other gods. These gods were beings of immense power that shaped the fate of the world and its inhabitants. They were benevolent caretakers that watched over the balance of Phlyndir, intervening when the balance was threatened, and restoring order in the midst of chaos. This earned them the fear, love, and respect of its inhabitants. The inhabitants began to worship the gods, starting religions and faith causes. This made the gods happy and they began bestowing favors and even power to the most devout of their followers. The world was in peace, it was a beautiful and perfect place.

It was because of this beauty that the gods began to desire the world for themselves. They ordered their followers to expand their influence. Fanatics of the gods would try to convince others to join their religion, putting their beliefs on a pedestal and degrading that of the others. Inevitably, war erupted between sects; this would later be known as the war of the faiths. The world fell into disorder. Armies marched upon armies and destruction spread everywhere. Devout fanatics bestowed with power turned their gifts on each other. So terrible was the war that it took its toll on the world.

The world began to break apart; this would later be known as the cataclysm. Continents crumbled and began floating away from each other and the oceans began to fall into the abyss, giving rise to what would be later known as the great mist. The gods saw what was happening and they began to weep for they knew that this was their faults. They knew what had to be done; they could not let a beautiful paradise be lost forever, so they gathered all their might and created a core of immense power to hold what was left of the world together, giving up their very essence and consciousness to do so. The world began to stabilize and the gods were no more and in their place was a core that would hold the world together.

With the absence of the gods, religions began to crumble, and destiny belonged to whoever was brave enough to master their fate. This marked the end of the aeon of the gods and the beginning of the aeon of mortals.

I was thinking that only the Gods of old, let's say maybe 16 of them, sacrificed themselves to become the gravity core of the planet, and the 4 named Gods were left to be caretakers of the world. The thing is, they almost didn't meddle at all with the things that happened in the planet itself, only protecting it from outside harm, or maybe even evening out battles sometimes.

ahh, pero I was thinking na in order for the core to lose power in the future, something like "since the gods have abandoned the world, people lost faith in them, but the faith was the one powering the gods in the first place, so this loss of faith weakened the core and eventually making it disappear" but if the four named gods were still around they wouldn't allow that to happened. or something like that.

How about like, when the core started losing its gravity, the four gods started sending their energy to the core, letting it hold for a bit longer, until they lost all their power, which would be the probable time when the lands would just fall apart. So during the AT period, there would be no gods left.

OR

You could make it that the Gods would send most of their energy, but before they used it all up, the land collider was finished and so the Gods still do exist, but their power is almost too weak for the citizens to notice. This could fuel the reason as to why the Kod-Mezu still have a hint of magical power to magnify during the AT period. Also, it could spark a whole new game, when the Gods are revived or some shit like that.

I was thinking that the kod-mezu were naturally magical and didn't need the gods to produce any magic, ergo them being able to travel in outer space. Otherwise the gods would have to follow them around when they traveled through outer space or something like that.

I thought it was that the simple fact that the Gods were alive would be enough to ensure the power of the Kod-mezu, so it's like long-distance calling.

If not the weakening of the Gods, how would the Kod-mezu's powers be reduced?

we could make it like Kod-mezu powers were not reduced, everyone else just got stronger, battles would be epic.

But I wanted to make them a bit more technologically centric on things that appear magical (lasers, etc.) Just because they don't have less magic doesn't mean that they can't still be epic :>

so when everyone got stronger, they decided to incorporate technology to append to their powers. So their powers weren't reduced plus they have technology na.
